Taapsee Pannu’s Rashmi Rocket brings back lingering memory of Dutee Chand

Khurana told PTI that ‘Rashmi Rocket’ is not based on the life of one person but is inspired by the stories of many Indian and international season 4 yellowstone songs female athletes. RASHMI ROCKET is the story of a girl who’s accused of being a man. Rashmi Vira is from Bhuj, Gujarat and is a tour guide.

Some of the fellow runners despise her, especially Niharika and Priyanka . They call her a ‘man’ as they believe that she has masculine qualities. At the Asia Games, Rashmi manages to win three gold medals. The same day, when she returns, a female official from the Association asks her to come along for some procedure. Rashmi is taken to a government hospital and is compelled to undergo multiple blood tests. All these procedures take nearly six hours and Rashmi is not allowed to have food.

“Dutee is a national icon, and I hope to see her story on screen one day. However, Rashmi Rocket is not that story.” Dutee Chand, a double silver medallist at the Asian Games and India’s National record-holder in 100 m, was banned and dropped from India’s Commonwealth and Asian Games teams in 2014. This was on grounds of hyperandrogenism – a condition where the female body produces more testosterone, almost at the level of men. In 2018, she won two Silver medals at the Women’s 100 m and 200 m at the Asian Games. And became the first Indian athlete to come out as gay. Taapsee has over time, carved a niche in cinema and is known for high-content, issue-driven cinema.

A rival whose father is part of the selection committee favours his own champion daughter, who has to be content with being in the ‘also-ran’ category. The small-town girl Rashmi Vira is born with the rare talent to run with utmost agility that makes her sprint faster than anyone in the neighbourhood. Her father and mother dote on her and help her in earning the moniker ‘Rocket’ for being the fastest runner. As word gets around of her immense talent, she also wins admiration from far and wide, and even finds herself training to compete at the national level. Soon, as her reputation precedes her, she also begins to make rivals feeling threatened, leading to a conspiracy that could draw the curtains on her career. The film features Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, alongside Priyanshu Painyuli and Abhishek Banerjee. Rashmi Rocket starts slow, taking its sweet time to establish the characters, but picks up gradually and keeps you hooked throughout.
